ABOUT THE PROJECT

THE GOALS

Our goal is to implement a UNESCO-inspired Green Academy in Yayu, Ethiopia and thereby improve the local infrastructure and education system. In doing so, we can improve their infrastructure and the education system.

The project follows the five pillars of the UNESCO Green Academy:

  1. Rainwater utilization and harvesting

  2. Wastewater treatment and recycling, keeping the pathogenic and other waste water from penetrating into natural and artificial ecosystems

  3. Production of clean energy

  4. Production of biomass for food and fuel

  5. Establishment of youth clubs (these are vital to the sustainability of the project)

The goal of Jena in Yayu” is to install between 60,000 liters and 100,000 liters of water saving capacity in the first two years. Additionally, we plan on the installation of grey and black water treatment plants.

To ensure that these goals can be fulfilled, a group of fifteen students, three teachers, a doctor, and experts from the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) will travel to Ethiopia. Professional support is always available on-site.

In the future, one of our main priorities will be to remain an independent, self-managing, student initiative, so that our project can benefit from young, innovative ideas exchanged between students from different countries.
